Waterton Lakes National Park is a year round recreation destination located in the southwest corner of the province of Alberta, Canada. It is a land of mountain peaks, rambling rivers, wildflower meadows, alpine lakes and wildlife sightings... in short, Waterton Lakes National Park is where the prairie grasslands meet the mighty Rocky Mountain Range.

To the west of Waterton, in the province of British Columbia, Canada, is the Akamina-Kishinena Provincial Park. Some of the backcountry trails interconnect with the threesome of parks.

In 1932 the Waterton Lakes National Park and the Glacier National Park joined forces to create the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. An effort by neighbouring countries to combine resources for the betterment of the wilderness environment. And since 1995 the park has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There are two paved roads in Waterton Lakes National Park which access adventures. The Akamina Parkway is a 16 kilometre road leading to trails, mountain peaks and Cameron Lake. The Red Rock Parkway is a 15 kilometre road exploring prairie grasslands leading to trails, waterfalls, Red Rock Canyon and the parks tallest mountain - Blackiston Mountain measuring 2910 metres (9580 feet).

There are many lakes, trails and mountain passes to discover in the Waterton National Park. Exploring leads to wildlife sightings like bear, deer, bighorn sheep, bison, elk, marmots and more.

During the summer months some of the activities enjoyed in the Waterton Lakes National Park include boating, horseback riding, golfing, cycling, mountain biking, hiking, camping, fishing, canoeing, backpacking, rafting, kayaking, birdwatching, photography and attending events.

During the winter months, when the ground is covered in snow and the lakes frozen, the activities enjoyed in the Waterton Lakes National Park include ice climbing, cross country skiing, ice fishing and snowshoeing.

Waterton Townsite is the village located within the park boundaries. It is the base for many adventures. There are recreation services, unique shopping experiences and supply stores.
