Sylvan Lake is a year round resort community and home to a provincial park - both located west of the community of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. The community is best known for its beautiful lake, long sandy beach, waterfront walkway and water sport activities.

lake-marina20090710 82The town of Sylvan Lake is situated along the southeast shores of the 15 kilometre long lake. Neighbouring next to the community is the Sylvan Lake Provincial Park. Both the community and park provide many opportunities for adventure year round.

The small village centre provides many of the services important to travelers like accommodations, marina, attractions, tours, restaurants, coffee shops, retail gift stores, post office, internet, gas station and grocery store.

Some shops, boutiques and stores are housed in older buildings while some hotels, attractions and others are operating from newer buildings. Many are decorated in bright colors typical of a beach community.

Sylvan Lake is considered a top destination for summer activities in the Central Alberta region. Some of the summer activities include boating, sunbathing, walking, sailing, golfing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, biking, water skiing, jet boating, scuba diving, houseboating and fishing.

During the colder months, when the lake freezes over, some of the winter activities enjoyed on the lake include ice skating, snowmobiling and cross country skiing.

How to Get to Sylvan Lake:

The community of Sylvan Lake is located west of the community of Red Deer, Alberta. From Red Deer travel 25 kilometres west on Highway 11 or 11a to the entrance of the resort community.
