Waskahaegan Trail: A 309 km hiking trail explores along the banks of the Whitemud and Blackmud Creeks in Edmonton before heading south towards the community of Wetaskiwin. The trail then continues east connecting with the community of Camrose, Ministik Bird Sanctuary and the Miquelon Lake Provincial Park. From there the trail heads north to Elk Island Park and the Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Recreation Area before heading west to the community of Fort Saskatchewan. The trail explores bogs, grasslands and forests. It passes by lakes, follows the shores of wetlands and crosses over rivers.
William Hawrelak Park: A large 130 hectare community park in Edmonton with a lake, picnic sites, large grass lawns, a pavilion, some paddleboats, an amphitheatre, a playground and access to hiking an biking trails in the summer. In the winter when the lake freezes over there is a skating rink and the snow covered trails are for xc skiing. The park is a very popular destination for events and festivals.
Strathcona Science Provincial Park: A year round recreation destination located south of the city of Edmonton and near the community of Sherwood Park. During the summer the park is a hiking and mountain biking destination and during the winter the park enjoys xc skiing, downhill skiing and tobogganing.
Capilano Park: A park in the River Valley of Edmonton over looking the North Saskatchewan River. The park enjoys picnic sites, hiking and biking trails and a boat launch accessing the river.
Gold Bar Park: An activity and picnic park in Edmonton on the North Saskatchewan River. There are picnic sites, a bandshell, pavilion, washrooms, grassy lawns, pond, walking trails and baseball diamonds.
Louise McKinney Riverfront Park: Considered an entrance park to the River Valley parks system. There are picnic sites, outdoor stage, gardens, washrooms and a floating dock. The park is popular for canoeing, sightseeing, boating, walking, biking, picnicking, events and festivals.
