Camrose, Alberta, Canada is an event and activity destination located in the Stoney Creek Valley in Central Alberta. The area is considered a transitional geography zone positioned in between the grasslands of the prairies and the trees of the boreal forest.

camrose_031The community is situated on the shores of Mirror Lake and on the banks of Camrose Creek. The lake and creek form part of the Stoney Creek Valley. The valley is a developed recreational greenspace region complete with recreation facilities, parks and trails.

The Stoney Creek Valley is located in the centre of Camrose and runs north-south through the community. It is a well maintained park system connected by 35+ kilometres of year round trails and community parks... including Bullrush Park, Grand Drive Park, Mirror Lake Park, Rotary Park, Jubilee Park, Kin Park, Kamifurano Park and Stoney Creek Park.

The valley is a popular destination for many activities and adventures. During the summer months some of the the activities enjoyed in Camrose include golfing, walking, canoeing, fishing, jogging, mountain biking, birdwatching, picnicking, swimming and kayaking.

During the winter months, after the snow has fallen and temperatures have dropped, the activities enjoyed in the community include cross country skiing, downhill skiing, snowboarding, ice fishing, snowmobiling and tobogganing.

There are many services available in Camrose which are important to travelers like accommodations, grocery store, post office, banks, restaurants, gas stations, internet, laundromat, coffee shops and campgrounds. And the main industries in the region are agriculture, oil and gas.

Camrose, Alberta was originally named Sparling. The name derived from Reverend Dr. Sparling who was once a local doctor who arrived in the area from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It was not until 1906 when Sparling officially became Camrose.
