Located in the County of Newell is a transportation hub, agricultural region, lake recreation destination and a growing oil and gas exploration centre located in the Southern Alberta region of Canada - a region known as the Canadian Badlands.

To the north of Brooks, Alberta, Canada is the Red Deer River and to the south is the Bow River. Both considered major waterways in the province. However, for the longest time ... the County of Newell was an arid and a dry region - very much like the majority of the Canadian Badlands.

Today... the waterway project is managed by the Eastern Irrigation District (EID).

The introduction of water to the region resulted in the population growing and new villages forming. Soon later... the County of Newell quickly became a top producer of agricultural products in the province of Alberta.

The Eastern Irrigation District waterway system includes over 2000 kilometres of canals and pipes. The waterways then connect to various large reservoir lakes. These large man-made reservoir lakes are also recreation destinations with sandy beaches, parks, viewpoints and recreation trails.

Some of the summer activities enjoyed in Brooks, Alberta, Canada and the Country of Newell include fishing, golfing, swimming, canoeing, hiking, camping, birdwatching, dirt biking, off roading, boating, sailing, picnicking and water skiing.

After the snow has fallen and the lakes freeze over some of the winter activities enjoyed in the region include ice fishing, snowmobiling, ice skating and cross country skiing.

There are services in the County of Newell important to travelers. Some of the services include accommodations, campgrounds, gas stations, grocery stores, retail stores, post office, major chain stores, restaurants, attractions, museums, liquor stores, pubs, coffee shops and vehicle repair.
