There are many hiking trails, sightseeing driving routes and rivers exploring the wilderness providing opportunity to view wildlife. The Rocky Mountain region includes the Banff National Park, Jasper National Park and Kananaskis Country.
In the northern region of Alberta is a wildlife sanctuary located near the community of High Level that is popular for viewing buffalo and the whooping crane. The park is called the Wood Buffalo National Park.
In Central Alberta some of the wildlife viewing destinations include the Elk Island National Park near Edmonton; the Willmore Wilderness Park near Grande Cache and the William A. Switzer Park near Hinton.
In South Alberta the three parks which provide the best wildlife viewing opportunities include the Fish Creek Provincial Park near Calgary; the Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park located southeast of Medicine Hat and the Waterton Lakes National Park in the southwest corner of the province.
