There are various forms of rock climbing practiced in Alberta. They include traditional rock climbing, sport climbing, solo climbing and bouldering.
The climbers are attached together by a rope and harness when on a traditional rock climbing adventure. Each climber is required to carry their own equipment as they maneuver up climbing routes. As they are climbing they insert wedges and bolts into the rock wall securing their climbing positions.
When sport climbing the routes are predetermined because the anchors and bolts have already been hammered into place identifying climbing routes.
Solo climbing is similar to sport climbing except there is no rope used. Solo involves a "clutch, grab and hold" approach to climbing.
