Off Road in Alberta
Alberta, Canada off roading adventures provides an opportunity to explore the wilderness backcountry areas of Alberta while traveling gravel roads, fire roads, cut lines, sand flats and forestry and mining access roads.
The network of backcountry roads range from easy to difficult. Some are short one way routes while others are loop routes connecting with other backcountry routes. There are designated off road areas and there are off roading areas which are shared with other activities.
Transportation for an off road adventure could be a 4x4, SUV, dirt bike, dune buggy or ATV. There are many designated off road areas in the province. Many are maintained by off road associations or community groups.
Throughout Alberta, Canada there are off road tour operators. The operators provide the knowledge and experience plus the equipment, a guide and lessons if necessary. Longer tours, multi day tours, provide meals and possibly accommodations.
Some arrive in Alberta with an off road vehicle in tow. For the self guided off roading adventure it is important to abide by the rules. All off road vehicles must be registered, have lights and a muffler. And the operator must have a valid drivers licence.
In the North Alberta region some of the off roading areas include the Timeu Creek OHV Recreation Area near Barrhead and Shuttler Flats located near Grande Prairie.
Throughout Central Alberta some of the off roading destinations include the Redwater Natural Area and the North of Bruderheim Natural Area located near Edmonton; Mountain Park and the Brule Lake Sand Dunes near Hinton; Brown Creek and Snow Creek near Nordegg; Jackfish Lake and South Fork near Rocky Mountain House and Dead Horse Meadows and the Ambler Mountain Trail near Grande Cache.
And in the South Alberta region the off roading destinations include Fallen Timber and South Ghost located near Cochrane; the McLean Creek OHV Recreation Area located near Calgary and Beaver Creek located near Waterton Lakes National Park..
